Casa San Lio overlooks the large Piazza Mazzini di Noto , where the Church of the Santissimo Crocifisso, designed by the architect, dominates with all its baroque charm. Rosario Gagliardi in the first decades of the 18th century. It is the second largest church in the city – after the Cathedral – and is full of valuable works of art.
We are in the heart of the highest area of Noto, called for this "Piano Alto". It is a historic district characterized by period houses and alleys, frequented and well served. A few meters from Casa San Lio you can reach pharmacies, supermarkets and grocery stores, bars, restaurants and pizzerias, and the Post Office.

Noto, capital of the Sicilian Baroque

The historic center of Noto is recognized by UNESCO as a "World Heritage Site" because it is very rich in splendid late Baroque architecture, from churches to civic and noble palaces. Among these, just to mention the best known, the Cathedral of San Nicolò – emblem of the city with its imposing staircase – Palazzo Ducezio, Palazzo Nicolaci di Villadorata, the Teatro Comunale, the Porta Reale, Palazzo Di Lorenzo del Castelluccio.
The Infiorata takes place every year on the third Sunday of May, giving visitors from all over the world the scenographic spectacle of Via Nicolaci covered with a carpet of flowers. A much loved and evocative event, one of the most beautiful in Sicily.
Casa San Lio is about 400 meters from the historic center of Noto, the time required for a short and pleasant walk to discover the characteristic streets and monuments of the Baroque city.

A tour in the Val di Noto

In 2002 the historic center of Noto became a UNESCO World Heritage Site together with the other late Baroque cities of the Val di Noto (South-East Sicily): Caltagirone, Militello Val di Catania, Catania, Modica, Palazzolo Acreide, Ragusa and Scicli. All together they constitute an exceptional testimony of late Baroque art and architecture, representing the culmination and last flowering of the European Baroque. Casa San Lio is an excellent base from which to move to visit the eight cities day after day, in the name of tourist itineraries, food and wine tours and cultural events that are unique in the world.

The sea and the natural beauties

From Casa San Lio it is possible to easily reach some of the most beautiful beaches in Sicily: from the crystal clear waters of Calamosche to the quiet hamlet of Calabernardo, from the shores of Noto Marina to the golden sand of Eloro, up to the inlets of San Lorenzo and the seaside village of Marzamemi.

The location of the apartment also allows you to quickly reach the Vendicari and Cavagrande Nature Reserves, where it is possible to venture on excursions to discover the wonderful landscape variety of the places.

The archaeological sites

The territory of Noto boasts numerous and important areas of historical-archaeological interest, such as Noto Antica, the site of Eloro, the Villa del Tellaro and Castelluccio di Noto . An itinerary that has the flavor of time travel in the Greek and Roman eras, and which extends to the Eurialo Castle and the Neapolis Archaeological Park in Syracuse, reachable by car from Casa San Lio in less than an hour.
